The Hunting
Whitetail Deer
Now operating under a type III Managed Land Deer Permit (MLD), The Tres Piedras Ranch offers excellent opportunity for mature whitetail deer reaching Boone & Crockett measurements. The 2009 hunting season produced a year’s best 178 B & C trophy and the Ranch best is a whopping 192 inch monster. The deer harvest will be based on the biologist survey but will include the opportunity for multiple bucks and does for all members.
Quail
The Ranch has a historically abundant population of both bob white and blue quail. Quail populations can vary greatly from year to year but in 2008, quail hunters jumped 20 to 25 coveys per day over dogs. The terrain also affords excellent quail hunting along the roads and senderos. The roads maybe fed with milo to entice coveys to the brush edges. The 2009 drought adversely effected our quail.
Doves
The dove hunting in this region can be spotty but the ranch offers excellent water and habitat. The numerous lakes should provide ideal settings for social dove hunting with plenty of shooting. Second seasons dove hunting can be excellent in this area of S. Texas.
Ducks
The big lake and other ranch lakes will attract and hold a steady stream of wintering waterfowl. Species include teal, gadwalls and mallards.
Turkey
The Ranch has few turkey’s. Turkey hunting is not allowed.
Hogs
Hog hunting will be encouraged to keep the population in check.
Varmint
Varmint hunting is allowed and encouraged.
